Dr Gareth Horrocks D.C. (Palmer, U.S.A.)Doctor Of ChiropracticMember of:- I was born in Leigh, Lancashire. I was schooled in St Helens, Merseyside, where I enjoyed playing rugby and cricket for the school, before at the age of fifteen I had low back problems, which ended in surgery. I studied Engineering at Staffordshire University and upon graduation, I worked at Tatung as a Design Draughtsman for a number of years before moving to GKN Defence. I stayed at GKN Defence for seven years, as a Design Engineer and then Project Engineer, during this time the company was bought out by Alvis Vehicles and more recently BAE Systems. It was during this time that I found chiropractic. It was a chance meeting at a local gym, where a local Chiropractor was performing Spinal Wellness Screenings that the journey began. I had episodes of low back pain but was currently concerned about lack of sleep and stress that I was under. I was not the type of person to just go to the doctor, other than for a sick note for work purposes. After the short screening and a brief explanation about chiropractic I made an appointment. I immediately slept better after the first adjustment. After attending a Health Care Talk after his second adjustment I knew this was the health care system that I had been seeking, simply put, the body healing itself. “I had got the big idea, it was as if someone switched on the light.” Excited by the talk I researched chiropractic on the internet, where Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa, USA kept appearing. Six weeks after that first adjustment, tagged on the back of a business meeting, I was attending the annual Palmer Homecoming as a prospective student. “What an amazing experience, never have I seen so many people so passionate about their job and the people they help. I knew then, it wasn't IF I was going to become a chiropractor but WHEN.” It took almost two years to get my affairs and finances in order but in July 2003 I enrolled on the Doctorate of Chiropractic programme at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, USA - The ‘Fountainhead of Chiropractic’ - the place where it all began back in 1895. “What an incredible journey it has been. I met some amazing people at my time in Davenport. They say the mid-west has friendly people, but the people of Davenport and Palmer are so warm and welcoming.”
